Fun Things to Do

Valley Glacier Point

Valley Glacier Point
Valley Glacier Point is a viewpoint above Yosemite Valley, in California, USA. It is located on the south wall of Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 7,214 feet (2,199 m), 3,200 feet (980 m) above Curry Village. The point offers a superb view of Yosemite National Park, including Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, and Clouds Rest.

Tunnel View

Tunnel View
This viewpoint offers a beautiful panorama of Yosemite Valley with El Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right and Half Dome in the center. The lookout is located on Highway 41 at the western end of the valley.

Half Dome

Half Dome
Half Dome is a granite dome in Yosemite National Park, located in northeastern Mariposa County, California, at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley — possibly Yosemite's most familiar sight. The granite crest rises more than 4,737 ft (1,444 m) above the valley floor.

El Capitan

El Capitan
Rising 3,593 feet from the valley and 7,569 feet above sea level, El Capitan, Yosemite is a breath taking sight. Favored by expert rock climbers from all part of the world, El Capitan Yosemite is the largest exposed granite monolith in the world. In fact, El Capitan Yosemite is almost twice the height of the rock of Gibraltar!

Sentinel Rock

Sentinel Rock
Midway between El Capitan and Half Dome, Sentinel (Rock) is guardian of Yosemite Valley's South side. The tombstone-shaped, usually dark, ~1500' North face looms forbidding over Leidig Meadow below and is home to one of Yosemite's most notorious routes: the 'Steck-Salathe.' A bit less traveled is the technically harder, but less sustained 'Chouinard-Herbert.' The 'West Face' rounds out the selection of most popular routes on Sentinel.

Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall and Mist Trail

Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall and Mist Trail
While many of Yosemite's trails are popular due to having a single spectacular destination, the Mist Trail has fabulous views scattered all along it, beginning at the bridge overlook, progressing to two unforgettable waterfalls that fall a combined total of more than 900 feet (270 meters), and ending with perhaps the most striking of all: the view of Nevada Fall, Liberty Cap, and the back of Half Dome from the Muir Trail return segment.

Back Packing and Horseback Riding

Back Packing and Horseback Riding
Backpacking? swimming? picnics? snow sledding? boating? water skiing? camping? climbing? fishing? hiking? off-roading? skiing? movies? snowboarding? relaxing in the pines? horseback riding? golfing? BBQing? We have it all!

Coarsegold

Coarsegold
Coarsegold is rarely mentioned as part of the mother lode—but it is, in fact, the southernmost populated settlement in California's famed mother lode territory. The town was once a stage stop for Yosemite-bound travelers. The Golden Chain Highway (State Route 49) through California's quirky old gold rush towns and wild foothill topography begins about seven miles north, in the town of Oakhurst. Coarsegold, the region, consists of scattered ranches, homes on big lots, Indian trust land, and "estate-style" subdivisions.

Bass Lake

Bass Lake
Visit beautiful Bass Lake for fishing, water and snow skiing, or wildflower gathering, a camper's paradise. Take a one hour guided tour on the Bass Lake Queen II steam wheeler. The Bass Lake Boat Club and local Chamber of Commerce sponsor the annual 4th of July fireworks display over Bass Lake.

Fresno Flats Historical Park

Fresno Flats Historical Park
Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park recaptures the flavor of 19th Century life in the Sierra Nevada foothills and mountains of Central California. Eastern Madera County is the southern end of the historic Mother Lode gold fields, but the people who settled here came not so much for gold but more to build their lives and raise their families, making their living as farmers, merchants and using the rich natural resources of the mountains. The village and grounds are open from dawn to dusk for self guided tours.

Golden Chain Theatre

Golden Chain Theatre
19th Century Historic and Melodramatic Theatre ”2 miles and 200 years from Oakhurst California" In 1965, a group of community members decided that Oakhurst needed something to get the tourists driving through town on their way to Yosemite National Park a reason to stop (and spend money) in our Mountain Village.

North Fork Loggers' Jamboree<

North Fork Loggers' Jamboree
Plan to spend your 4th of July weekend in North Fork, once a logging capital, and now the home of the Loggers' Jamboree which is held annually and a major Central California attraction.

Pan for Gold in Ahwahnee

Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, Fish Camp

Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, Fish Camp
An exciting 4-mile railroad excursion at Yosemite Park's south gate on highway 41. Ride into history where powerful locomotives once hauled massive log trains through the Sierra mountains. Where mighty lumberjacks felled the timber and flumes carried lumber to the distant valley below. The Sierra National Forest's majestic woods provide the backdrop for the narrow gauge journey back in time.
